WOMAN

I am a woman, is not my misdemeanor

Yes, I am a woman.

Your writing has catapulted me to the cultural height

Not just as a human being living on this earth

But as the Goddess at the pedestal.

At the same time, you have made me

Screech lacimiating the heart of Tartarus.

Up surging Kosi’s uproar on nature’s face

Falling on lips

Sometimes autumn morning

Sometimes wintery cold nights

Whenever I see my face in mirror

Sita’s distressed shadow

Trembles on my eyelid

My aanchal

Is not filled with moon and stars

But with Rahu-Ketu.

But, not now

No more the blowing wind will pollute woman

Now I realize

Nothing exists in this body of flesh and blood

We are made of the same matter

Nature has made woman tender and delicate

Then why only I am guilty??

I am not a creeper

Who wilts just seeing index finger

Now the time has changed

Country’s freedom has entered

Into women’s inner-self

Spreading bright sunshine

Illuminating inner and outer domain

Dreaming to touch the sky

Demolishing tradition- counter tradition

Creating new sun rays in the reconstructed sky

Women are marching ahead …

But still look at my devotion

Bearing everything

I conceive and create

I give you birth

But it is you who becomes the God

Now it is the time

To

Forgo man-centric discourse

And begin women-centric discourse.

The constant shedding of Tears (Maithili poem by Sh. Rajdeo Mandal - from his anthology of Maithili poems "Ambara"- translated into English by Gajendra Thakur)
-----------------

Out of the eyes of my beloved
tears like a river
always remain flowing
and in that water of tears
people plunge
some feel cold
and some feel hot
some say wow!
and some feel bad.
but my blind-deaf accomplice
does not care,
her tears always remain flowing
but for some time her tears have stopped coming out
now perhaps she has emptied herself of tears
or
is she storing it!
